The Rocky Road

Now cyclists are having trouble with Huddersfield's poor roads http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/local-west-yorkshire-news/2010/03/09/cyclist-paul-brierley-tells-of-pot-hole-misery-on-journey-to-work-86081-25990188/ which is no real surprise!

The winter has not helped but is not the main cause of road surface failure. Years of road neglect, poor restitution work by utilities and governments using our road tax for anything but the roads, have led to a terminal decline in road surface quality.

When central government and the local authorities wake up to the fact that the road infrastructure is important to a countries efficient running and wealth then things may improve but I will not hold my breath.

The harshest winter in decades has left many European roads covered with potholes - at a time when few councils have money spare for repairs.

A German town (Niederzimmern) started asking people to sponsor potholes for 50 euros each, with the repaired ground sporting the donors' names.

If KMC offered this scheme to the local population they could make a fortune!

Chrisc left this link regarding Kirklees roads today http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/commons/1990/oct/25/roads-kirklees
Make interesting reading as to how little things have improved within Kirklees Metropolitan Council.
