Oldies

Postby Rexec » "Fri Feb 26, 2010 9:17 pm"

Is it me, or is Huddersfield absolutely overrun by pensioners?

The town's going to be stuck in the past forever unless they hurry up and die!

No its overrun by people who brought you into the world, fed, clothed and educated you - not always a success story obviously.

It's overun with pensioners because anyone with a car doesn't shop in Huddersfield town centre. It's only when we oldies get too old to drive that we catch a bus into town. :(

Even then our council makes it difficult for us by having the bus and rail stations away from the main shopping areas at the top of the hill and pedestrianising the main area so buses cannot travel along the streets.

I was going to, [and reluctantly will] welcome another new 'monnicker' Rexec to the forum.
 What on earth did we do wrong? Did we show such a poor example to our children that they bred almost a complete generation with no idea of what 'these oldies' did and went through for the country - and for them? The attitude many of of them saddens me immensely.

I think this is a tongue in cheek topic, if there were no oldies what kind of country would this be? I for one think a lot less wealthy, as the silver surfers contribute an awful lot, not just in monetary terms but morally too.

I learned in a seminar recently that "wrinkley" is a word of abuse, very non-PC. Well, I am a 'wrinkley' and proud of it! For fifty years I did not really expect to get past the end of the millenium and here I am still alive and kicking. My forgettery department gets fuller every day but I am at least partially compos mentis and delighted to be doing my bit occasionally to clutter up the town.

dont think its the oldies who chuck the rubbish around such as takeaway cartons and cans , not to mention the chewing gum stuck to the pavements , we may clutter the place up with our bodies but we dont leave them behind when we go home , wish the young ones would grow up and turn into resposinble old people

Speak for yourself 'heavygoodslorry'! I'm sure they'd get 'blackballed' for membership of our club! I mean I'm not a snob! I enjoy letting Bernie have a pop, [just for the pleasure of ducking and counter-punching!] Even 'markmyword' is fun, really! So we let most 'pill-boxes' in....but there have to be limits, don't you agree? :)

Well Rexec, unless you have discovered the Fountain of Youth you can look forward to contributing your goodself to the wandering Crinklies patrolling the Town Center, or are you planning to 'expire' on a given date.
