Re Learn from the Castle Hill Saga

Postby ZAK » "Sun Nov 01, 2009 10:24 pm"

Wow! Yet again the council are letting the Thandi Partnership get their pub built on our Hill.
This is absolutley amazing news for all....and tells us all if you flout rules, cheat and disregard agreements you can still get what you want.!!!!!
How many chances does the council give these guys? How much money have they wasted on this....would it not have been cheaper use of HONEST TAX Payers money to make the compulsory purchase that was threatened so that the public could vote on what they wanted....not what people who have mislead everyone before.

I for one would like to know how the Thandi Partnership are even in the running to develop this site after the selling off the very stone they promised to use to restore the pub and cheating they attempted with the council and people of huddersfield.

Something stinks here and I think its coming again from our Council (Mr Mehboob and co)who have yet again given this dodgy lot another chance to profit from our hill.

By the way does anyone even know what other businesses they run....or are they still living off the money they made on selling of (historical) stone from they sold last time.

The public should be demanding an investigation on all aspects of this planning deal to see if anything untoward has been occurring behind closed doors to get this matter resolved in the thandis favour.

Very odd! I posted a comment a couple of days ago, when the Examiner reported [more or less] that the Council, having given the applicants until the end of the month, [October] to submit new proposals for the re-development or risk a compulsory purchase order being made on the site - which apparently included the Castle! The applicants' architects responded by asking the council to 'help them formulate an acceptable proposal'!
My posting was to the effect that I feel it is not in the power of the council to 'oblige' applicants in this manner :!: It is their brief to examine proposals put to them, then accept or refuse them - on specific grounds. WE, the public, pay the planning staff, to work FOR US, not for the Thandis! Also, having given the applicants a deadline which they have failed to keep, KMC is in dereliction of it's duty in NOT proceeding with the purchase order!
The history of these brothers and KMC is, as suggested in the earlier post, starting to smell!

All this means is that finally "The price Is Right" and the correct palms have been well and truly greased.

WHAT A JOKE! THE COUNCIL AND PLANNERS NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED HERE. ANY NORMAL APPLICANT WOULD NOT GET ANY FAVOURS SO WHY THE THANDIS???? WHOS SCRATCHING WHOS BACK HERE.

I BET IF THERE WAS A VOTE BY THE PUBLIC ON WHETHER THE COMPULSORY ORDER SHOULD BE PURSUED OR LET THE THANDIS GET THEIR OWN WAY AND PROFIT FROM THIS....THE PUBLIC WOULD VOTE TO GET THIS OFF THESE DODGY DEVELOPERS.

LIKEI SAID SOMETHING STINKS HERE!

I agree Zak, Castle Hill sits there for all to see, the log running debacle shames us all.

The Thandis should have been run out of town years ago.

More people in Hudderfield need to tell the council what they think about this...its disgusting that we pay council tax and rate payers and are not to be heard and thought of when it comes to matters such as this.

We need a visitor centre up there on the grounds of the old pub not another pub so the very same dodgy characters can profit from this heritage site.

I would feel different perhaps if the original plans were followed and the pub was up in line with these plans...but the crafty acts of this lot who tried to bypass the planning agreements and laws should have been made to forfiet all rights and be sent packing years ago.

Bring in someone who is unrealated to this lot to build a visitor centre up there.

If the council do not do this then I hope the public remember this next time there is elections taking place and do not vote for this council again. Its about time that the council showed guts in actually taking serious action against these jokers and took back OUR HILL!!

The Thandi's should not be part of any further development or plans for this site at all. They have proved to be untrustworthy in all respects and KMC should take out a Compulsory Purchase Order on this site and be rid of them for good.

There are sufficient hotels in Huddersfield as it is and one 'on the hill' is not required. A refreshment and toilet facility is certainly needed as this is a well used area (not just at night) and perhaps this could be incorporated with an information centre telling the history of the site.

To prevent the anti-social habits of the few, either police patrols (unlikely) or a barrier to prevent vehicle access is required. They would probably be too tired to engage in sexual activity after struggling up the steps!

Heh Heh.

The barrier would be the obvious solution to keeping undesirables off the site, however, Kirklees seem to lack the wit to see the obvious.

Before the Thandis leave Huddersfield for good, they should reveal the whereabouts of the timbers, mullions and building stone that 'vanished' during the destruction of the original building.

No doubt incorporated into some new monsterous mansion put up somewhere without planning consent.

Dig out the Thandi's oversized cellar and convert them into a [lockable] toilet facility, engage a couple of mobile catering vans to operate in daylight hours then a lockable barrier on the access road, job done, no site security needed for a permanent refreshment building, no vehicle access after the catering vans have departed and no eyesore building for public conveniences.

Just read the letter posted today from Jane Sutcliffe and have to say that we all (KMC, Planners, and Public) need to remember that these clowns tried to make fools of everyone of us allwhen they....knocked down the walls they were told to leave up, dug into the cellar and expanded it for their own use, sold off stone and timber that was to be used so they could put up a new modern building that everyone was against. Also its vital to remember they own the leasehold of the old pub Only (that they knocked down) NOT The keys to the Hill or the planning department.

I was at the last public meeting in the town hall held on this matter and both the developers looked embarassed and guilty that they had been exposed by the public and Cnlr Smithson who seems the only person intelligent and gutsy enough to understand what the public wants up there and its not the Thandis or a new pub!.

Let the public voice be heard again and get them back into the Town hall for round 2! Lets see if they even turn up to show their faces or will they send their mate from the council Mr Sims with the offer of more pink granite to use up their

Although the Councillors have made a pigs ear of the whole debacle, should it be left to the honest hard working tax payer, the situation would still remain and they would not be able to find a solution that would have everyones seal of approval. Who was it that said "you can fool all of the people some of the time amd some of the people all of the time, but not all of the people all of the time", well substitute the word "fool", with "please" and you have the stalemate that has lasted all these years.

The council should have simply kept closer control of the building work at the very beginning and we would have now had years of enjoyment that was associated with the old establishment, also run by the Thandie brothers.

I noted "We need a visitor centre up there on the grounds of the old pub not another pub.."
Why? Surely there is a sound- and lockable - room available inside the castle for an information / visitor centre. Perhaps for toilets too. Alternatively any small works necessary 'for the public's convenience' can be carried out fairly close behind the castle itself, which would be good and secure too, as well as not interfering with the skyline.
It is certainly high time the public made their voices heard in KMC circles!
Protest meeting anyone?

Relax dear friends. There is a carefully choreographed musical chairs game here. The parties concerned are keeping cool and playing their parts. When the music finally ends there will be no chair for the Thandis.

KMC have turned down my suggestion for a ducking stool in the urinal feature in the square then. :D
